Another Tauranga Half...

Well the Tauranga Half is over for another year and this time it was very much a mixed bag for me.

The swim was a big disappointment. I thought that given the speed I have been going in training that a sub 30min 2km was on the cards. Instead it was over 31min again. There were a few issues to deal with, including the start that was disorganised with a lot of people over the start line. I thought that they would all be called back but it did not happen... Ended up having to swim over a large number of people and got in the wrong place. The tide was very strong too this caused a bit of a problem too.

A good transistion onto the bike but I must say I was not into it as I had swum really hard and still slow... was not able to eat or drink early on and did not get off to good start. Anyhow after about 20mins got over it and got going. Started to catch lots of people. Went passed Jo Lawn after end of second lap took longer than expected. Caught a number of the pros too. On last lap pushed really hard to try and make a good break.

Into run leg the transition was ok but took a while and I had quite a few pros and top age groupers bearing down on me. Held it together and stayed in contact. Things were going really well untill got 'round the back of the Mount then the right calf started to tighten. From that point on it was just a case of trying to hold on.

I ended up going quite slowly at the start of the second lap and got passed by Jo and eventual winner of women's race... but got going a bit better. Still a 92min run is pretty bad for me.

On the plus side got the win in Age Group and fastest Age Group bike split. So as I say not all bad. :)
